Xi Chapter New Member Presentation: Mu ‘Mystique’ Class of Fall 2023 Reveal

At Arizona State University, organizations from the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) to the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO) to the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) take part in new member presentation season. Though varying from organization to organization, new member presentations generally involve a greeting, presentation of the organization’s history, and a reveal of the new members, often occurring after the conclusion of an organization’s new member process. To partake in new member presentations is to acknowledge their roots in African American culture, specifically to the nine historically African American fraternities and sororities of the NPHC, also known as the “Divine Nine.”

New member presentations are one of the most significant and impactful ways to celebrate an identity-based/multicultural Greek organization; They welcome the newly crossed members into the community, showcase an organization’s values and traditions, and provide a space where all members of the Greek community can connect. Alpha Phi Gamma’s Xi Chapter recognizes the historical significance of new member presentations and celebrates their pride being in MGC through accomplishing their second-ever new member presentation since becoming a chapter in 2020.

The Mu ‘Mystique’ Class of Alpha Phi Gamma’s Xi Chapter includes Ashley “check meowt” Byron #77Ξ, Chloe “P.S. I Love Mew” Inocencio #78Ξ, Isabella “androMEda” Ira #79Ξ, Celeste “Kaizen” Jamin #80Ξ, Jamie “VALentina” Lo #81Ξ, Shelly “Soft Paws” Ly #82Ξ, Tuyet “JOYride” Markley #83Ξ, Helen “Big Purr” Nguyen #84Ξ.

“My line members and I are so incredibly proud of performing our new member presentation,” shares Isabella, a junior studying Biochemistry and Microbiology.

“Being able to share the legacy and values that have shaped our sorority have instilled a strong sense of pride and accomplishment among our sisters. Doing the new member presentation with my line strengthened my relationship with them and let me truly appreciate the traditions that Alpha Phi Gamma holds.”

The Mu ‘Mystique’ class, the first golden line since Spring 2022, has made history, especially successfully completing one of the most impressive and accomplishing feats of being a sister of Alpha Phi Gamma. But, they couldn’t have done it without the help of their Ritual Chancellor, Amy ‘Doraemon’ Tran of Theta ‘Tsuki’ Class of Fall 2021, and their Potential New Member Mom, Kayli “Akatsuki” Sasaki of the Kappa ‘Koopa Troopa’ Class of Fall 2022.

“We fortunately accomplished it again this year as our second,” expresses Amy Tran, who was the Potential New Member mom for the Kappa ‘Koopa Troopa’ class in Fall 2022.

“It has been an absolute privilege to be their Ritual Chancellor. My Minis persevered and exceeded expectations, demonstrating the qualities and values that our organization encourages.”

The Xi Chapter of Alpha Phi Gamma Sorority, Inc. would like to show our deep appreciation to those who have helped with the planning and execution of our new member presentation, those who attended, and those who supported.
