Alpha Phi Gamma has interest group eligibility requirements. See below if your interest group qualifies. If your interest group does not meet the qualifications, contact us at expansion@alphaphigamma.org.
What is the expansion (chartering) Process?
The expansion, or Chartering, process consists of two phases: the Interest Group phase and the Potential New Member (PNM) Process.
Becoming an Interest Group is the first step in getting Alpha Phi Gamma started at your school. This phase will set you up to learn the skills to operate as an organization, begin recruiting members, and work toward official recognition by your University and Alpha Phi Gamma’s National Board. As an Interest Group, you will complete the Interest Group checklist and submit an expansion packet. Our National Director of Expansion can help answer any questions during this phase.
The next step is the PNM Process, where you will learn the history, purpose, and traditions of Alpha Phi Gamma while developing relationships with our Sisters. You will have an Expansion Team, consisting of your PNM Mom, Educator, and Big Sisters, who will support you in the PNM Process and beyond!
Chartering requires significant time and effort. Consider it as adding another class to your course load. We are looking forward to meeting you!

What IS THE ESTIMATED TIMELINE FOR CHARTERING
The Interest Group phase can last for anywhere from 1 academic term (3-4 months) to 1 year or beyond. The main factors in determining how long this phase lasts are: (1) pace of the development of the Interest Group, (2) recruitment of Interest Group Members, and (3) University requirements/policies.
The PNM Process is an 8-week process and will take place during 1 academic term.
Interest Group Eligibility
All interest groups must meet these:
- Must be enrolled in a College/University.
- Minimum 2.5 term AND cumulative University GPA (or University requirement, whichever is higher). First-semester, first-year students must demonstrate a minimum of 2.5 cumulative high school GPA.
- Sincere interest toward the achievement of the goals of Alpha Phi Gamma.
- Well-rounded personality; Enthusiastically contribute their talents and participate in all functions to bring honor and pride to Alpha Phi Gamma.
- Integrity of character in all decisions, actions, and service to others to achieve better relations in the community.
- Compatibility with the Members of Alpha Phi Gamma.
- Willing to dedicate their time and effort into continuing the history and traditions of Alpha Phi Gamma.
- Minimum of 10 dedicated and motivated young ladies to begin the Expansion Process.
- Hosted 1 philanthropy event
- Hosted 1 social event
- Hosted 2 sisterhood events
The Director of Expansion will send you an “Interest Group Profile” form after they speak to you personally. The form and a processing fee per member needs to be submitted 4 months prior to the time of the Potential New Member Education Process.
