Fall Festivities

Written by Anna Chen
As the season is getting colder, people are huddling indoors and changing their activities. This month we hosted numerous events, such as our blanket making event for our local Women’s Shelter! The winter chills are approaching much faster here in Missouri, so it’s crucial to start bundling up in warm blankets and layers. We picked up large sheets of felt and learned how to make blankets together over Zoom. It was challenging as we had never made blankets before and our scissors were not cooperating with us, but we laughed over our struggles and finished the job. Collectively, we made ten blankets in a variety of colors. These blankets are double layered and made of comfy and insulating material, so we hope those who receive these will be nice and cozy this year!
In the spirit of Halloween, we hosted a sisterhood with our alumni and shared spooky stories. Seven of our lovely alumni joined us and shared about how their apartments may be haunted with ghosts, they know people with psychic powers, and other crazy suspicions. While our alumni can usually pop up on campus to hang out with sisters or just to say hi, the opportunity is much more limited now due to safety precautions, so our sisters had an absolute blast seeing their faces again. In addition, we paired with the brothers of the Latin fraternity, Lambda Theta Phi, and decorated mini pumpkins together. Our social chair worked with our recruitment chairs in order to make this event available to interested women in joining Alpha Phi Gamma. We set out painting kits and cute mini pumpkins that were available to people who RSVP’d. Then at night we all gathered on Zoom and painted together! Some people painted characters like No Face, Peppa Pig, and Pikachu while others painted cute designs such as clouds, ghosts, and fancy calligraphy. We can’t wait to become more involved and host more events next month!
