Fight Against Violence Towards Women

Helping OutAlpha Phi Gamma's official National Philanthropy is the Fight Against Violence Towards Women. The origins of our National Philanthropy began at our First National Conference in June 1999. During this gathering, our Sisters voted to focus on a cause that was not as strongly supported as others, but affected the lives of many women around the world. Thus began our passion in helping to fight against violence towards women.

Since then, our Sisters across the nation have committed their efforts in volunteering with shelters and organizations, and to help raise funds for this cause. Our Sisters seek to spread awareness of this cause to build support in our communities year-round. In addition, during Domestic Violence Awareness month in October, Alpha Phi Gamma joins together on a national level to volunteer time, raise awareness and help fundraise for this important cause.

In November 2009, Alpha Phi Gamma strengthened their committment by becoming a member of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV). The NCADV, whose core funding is generated through membership dues and product sales, is a non-profit grassroots membership organization working to:

  • Eliminate Domestic Violence
  • Empower Victims of Domestic Violence
  • Unite Our Voices
  • Alert and Educate the Public
  • Build Partnerships

Join Alpha Phi Gamma and the NCADV to stop domestic violence and make Every Home a Safe Home!

Violence against women can occur on public streets. Many occur in the seclusion of a private residence. Either way, its effects scar the face of our Nation. Many acts of abuse can spill over into schools and places of work, and it affects people from every walk of life. Violence toward women also affects the children in our lives. Whether they are witnesses to abuse or taking it first-hand they are also victims. Exposing children to abuse in their childhood can cause chain reactions as they continue to grow to adulthood.

Many women today are affected by violence, but are afraid and believe they have no place to go for help. The only way to help these women is by learning how to help them and doing it. If you or someone you know is affected by violence - NOW is the time to take hold of this issue. Being proactive is the only way to prevent Violence Toward Women.
